GRC: Document and score capabilities

Purpose: Understand how capabilities are documented and analyzed via actions.

Task: Score the Capabilities “Industry Regulation Compliant” and “ISO 9001:2008 Compliant” (Hint 1) and specify what Capaiblity “ISO 9001:2008 Compliant“ is delivered by (Hint 2) and execute the action “Highlight Business Process Impact” (Hint 3)  as per Cecil Grosscastle’s description:

The capabilities must be described by specifying their importance, maturity and what they are delivered by:

  • Industry regulation compliant
    • Overall Importance: Top Quartile
    • Overall Maturity: Consistent
  • ISO 9001:2008 compliant
    • Overall Importance: Differentiator
    • Overall Maturity: Continuous Improvement
    • Delivered By: QualiCar Processes

Score capabilities:

  1. Ensure that StrategyModel “QualiCar strategy model” is open
  2. Right-click on Capability “Industry regulation compliant” and click Open… to open the properties dialog
  3. In the properties dialog for the field Overall Importance specify “Top Quartile” and for the field Overall Maturity specify “Consistent“
  4. In the properties dialog click OK to save your changes and close the properties dialog
  5. Right-click on Capability “ISO 9001:2008 compliant” and click Open… to open the properties dialog
  6. In the properties dialog for the field Overall Importance specify “Differentiator” and for the field Overall Maturity specify “Continuous Improvement“
  7. In the properties dialog click OK to save your changes and close the properties dialog
  8. Note how the capabilities now have obtained colors and traffic light buttons. Adjust the size of the capabilities and position of the buttons.

Specify what a capability is delivered by:

  1. On the right in the repository explorer open BusinessProcess “Rent a car” and navigate to the tab “Capability“
  2. In the properties dialog for the field “Deliver Capability” insert Capability “ISO 9001:2008 compliant“
  3. In the properties dialog clik OK to save your changes and close the properties dialog
  4. Open StrategyModel “QualiCar strategy model“
  5. Right-click on Capability “ISO 9001:2008 compliant” and click Open… to open the properties dialog
  6. In the properties dialog navigate to the tab DeliveredBy and note the field “Delivered By” now contains BusinessProcess “Rent a car“
  7. In the properties dialog click OK to close the properties dialog

Perform Action “Highlight Business Process Impact“:

  1. Ensure that StrategyModel “QualiCar strategy model” is open
  2. On the right switch to the Actions tab and click Capability -> “Highlight Business Process Impact” -> “List Business Processes” to open the list of BusinessProcesses delivering capabilities
  3. In the list select BusinessProcess “Rent a car” and click OK to automatically high-light all Capabilities on the diagram that are delivered by BusinessProcess “Rent a car“
  4. On the right in the Actions tab and click Capability -> “Highlight Business Process Impact” -> “Reset” to clear the highlighting
