To start working with Business Capabilities organizations need to establish the baseline and current state.
This primarily involves three specific processes:
- Defining Business Capabilities
- Categorising Business Capabilities
- Establish Business Capability Context
If no Business Capabilities have already been formulated, organizations must identify, document and assess possible competencies in a structured manner with the chosen approach to who defines them.
Whether the organization is juvenile in its journey toward working with Business Capabilities or mature with existing Business Capabilities – these can be assessed and evaluated.
In the Business Capability Model, such evaluation can be executed through e.g. colour coding in terms of importance and ability to execute, through SWOT analysis or using maturity models. This essentially means that organizing/categorizing a Business Capability Map in QualiWare, allows the organization to understand:
- What the organization is doing
- The importance of these areas
- How well they are performed in the organization
