Define Business Capabilities

When defining the Business Capabilities, organizations must firstly consider what is critical to achieve for the organization’s strategic objectives.

If the organization has an existing Business Model, capabilities can be either derived from it, or mapped back to it. This ensures that the organizations activities and investments align or targets the realization of the overall strategy and objectives.

Another key element to consider is the elements that make up the Business Capabilities. A capability is enabled by a specific set of skills, processes, resources, and information that the organisation needs to deliver value to its customers – bearing in mind what the organization is doing, not how it is doing it.

Naming

Business Capabilities must be clearly differentiating from each other and is usually described including both a noun and a verb. It is advised to use the words that resonate organizationally with different business owners and stakeholders.

Description

A short description of each Business Capability is feasible for further context and to understand the differences between Business Capabilities. QualiWare allows you to do that by adding Descriptions to each Business Capability, that dynamically changes in the Dashboard depending on the Business Capability that you click.
