Develop a roadmap for enhancing and optimizing business capabilities over time. The roadmap should align with the organization’s strategic objectives, address the identified gaps, and prioritize the most critical capabilities.
Capability Roadmap
As formulated in the earlier section, Capabilities should be continuously re-evaluated based on their scores, alignment with objectives and their architectural alignment.
When organizations take new StrategicDecisions and formulate initiatives, to undergo a transformation in the realization of Goals/Objectives, they may need to re-evaluate the current-state architecture to ensure that they have the right Capabilities, Applications and Processes to support the transformation.
When working with a new initiative e.g. “Develop a new capability for Sustainable Energy Management”, you can create a new potential capability or link to existing ones that will be affected by the initiative. The potential to-be architecture information can then be utilized as the strategic journey of working with capabilities is continued.
Business Capability Map by Initiative
In QualiWare it is possible to attend to potential future-state architectures by using the Capability by Initiatives tap. This makes it possible to see what capabilities in the Capability mode will be affected or added when undergoing new initiatives.
This is a powerful resource for organizations to realize the impact that new or potential initiatives will have on the Architecture.
Business Capability Roadmap
I can also see a timeline of my Capability Roadmap by visiting the Capability Improvements tap. This highlights my capabilities that will be affected by different initiatives. Noting that the same capability could be affected by several different initiatives at different points in time. This roadmap could include initiatives that addresses some of the previously identified capability gaps – making the gaps actionable and addressing them by planning the enhancements and optimizations over time.
When developing an organisations business capabilities it is important to set long term goals.
To ensure that the development of the capabilities happens within its deadlines is it beneficial to create a roadmap to ensure a proper overview of the process.
The strength of a high-quality business capability roadmap lies in its ability to align the organisations strategic objectives across departments. It serves as a reminder of the projects to come and the deadlines for the ones currently under development. Furthermore, the roadmap addresses the indentified gaps in capabilities while showing a prioritisation of the most critical capabilities.
Ultimately, a well-developed roadmap for enhancing and optimizing business capabilities serves as a guiding beacon for organizational success. It empowers the organization to navigate through complexities, adapt to changing circumstances, and realize its full potential in achieving its strategic objectives. By fostering a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous improvement, the roadmap becomes not just a plan but a living blueprint for sustained growth and excellence.
